While the two world leaders have exchanged diplomatic niceties over the past four years, it is no secret that Chinese leader Xi Jinping is no fan of U.S. President Donald Trump and his America-first policies.
As such, it might also come as no surprise that China’s communist regime — specifically through its state-run media — is publicly backing presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and praising his choice of U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) as his running mate, as reported by the Washington Free Beacon.
The foreign praise came by way of the regime-approved Global Times in a recent piece highlighting Harris’ status as a woman of color as well as her relative youth compared to Biden.
Furthermore, her “aggressive attitude” both a former prosecutor and as a Trump opponent in the Senate play to her advantage, according to the article.
All things considered, the Global Times analysis predicted Harris’ addition to the ticket would be a benefit, owing in large part to the “wild polarization” surrounding the issue of race throughout Trump’s first term.
The senator is a “symbol of multicultural integration” that could drive minorities to the polls in support of her, the article continued. Her gender, age, and political style were among the other attributes cited as potential benefits to the party’s ticket.
“Harris’ toughness is what Biden lacks,” the article stated. “A mild and mature man with a young and aggressive woman constitutes a perfect match.”
These pro-Harris talking points echo the praise she has received from supporters in the Democratic Party and mainstream media in the days since she officially joined the Biden campaign.
It also comes on the heels of a new report from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence that reveals China is actively working to expand its “influence efforts” in the pursuit of a Biden victory in November.
“Many foreign actors have a preference for who wins the election, which they express through a range of overt and private statements; covert influence efforts are rarer,” the report stated.
U.S. National Counterintelligence and Security Center Director William Evanina concluded in his statement that intelligence officials are “primarily concerned about the ongoing and potential activity by China, Russia, and Iran.”
These disturbing revelations offer further credence to the concerns of Trump and others that foreign actors could take advantage of American election weaknesses to influence the outcome.
