Possibly ‘largest ever migrant caravan’ is heading toward the US: Report

Fox News reports that another large migrant caravan, possibly the “largest ever,” is heading to the U.S.-Mexico border.

The outlet reports that, currently, the caravan is made up of roughly 10,000 migrants. But, that figure is expected to balloon to 15,000 by the time it reaches the southern border.

The caravan mostly consists of individuals from Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua.

On Monday, the migrants departed from Tapachula, which is on the Mexico-Guatemala border. They are now traveling what is known as the coastal route, which will take them to the southern border.

“He will help us”

Migrants in the caravan have made it clear that President Joe Biden’s vow to end Title 42 is a large part of the motivation behind the caravan’s decision to seek asylum in the United States.

“He promised the Haitian community he will help them,” migrants told Fox. “He will recall Title 42. He will help us have real asylum.”

“Now we need him to keep his promise,” the migrants added.

Background

Title 42 is the Trump-era policy that has been used to expel illegal immigrants during the COVID-19 pandemic. The primary purpose of the policy is to slow down the spread of the coronavirus. But, it also has had that ancillary effect of slowing down illegal immigration at the southern border.

Now that the pandemic appears to be mostly over, though, the Biden administration has been trying to put an end to Title 42. This is consistent with the open borders approach that has been adopted by the administration from day one.

Republicans, on the other hand, have been fighting in court to keep Title 42 in place, considering that, currently, it is one of the only federal policies in place that is slowing down the pace of illegal immigration. The Biden administration, itself, has admitted that the number of illegal immigrants crossing the U.S.-Mexico border will likely increase from 8,000 to 18,000 per day once Title 42 is ended.

So far, the Republicans have been winning the legal battle. A judge has ruled that Title 42 can stay in place while the lawsuit is being decided. But, this hasn’t deterred the Biden administration.

The Biden administration has continued its quest to end Title 42. And, as long as it continues to pursue this and other open border policies, illegal immigration will continue to surge, as it has throughout Biden’s presidency.
