It appears that President Joe Biden, once again, is caving to the far left.
Breitbart reports that Biden has decided to extend the pause on federal student loan repayments.
It was just a little over a week ago that the Biden administration told Americans that it was moving forward with its plan to restart federal student loan repayment on February 1st, 2022.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, when asked about another extension, told reporters that the administration is focusing on ensuring a “smooth transition back into repayment.”
“We will engage directly with federal student loan borrowers to ensure they have the resources they need and are in the appropriate repayment plan,” she said. “We’re still assessing the impact of the omicron variant… But the Department of Education is already communicating with borrowers to help them prepare for a return to repayment on Feb. 1.”
The Biden administration, however, faced a backlash from the far left. And, now, it appears that the administration is, once again, giving in.
This week, the White House announced that Biden has decided to grant another extension of the pause on federal student loan repayments.
“We know that millions of student loan borrowers are still coping with the impacts of the pandemic and need some more time before resuming payments,” the White House said.
Given these considerations, today my Administration is extending the pause on federal student loan repayments for an additional 90 days — through May 1, 2022 — as we manage the ongoing pandemic and further strengthen our economic recovery.
The pause first went into effect in March of 2020. This is the third time it has been extended. And, by the time repayment will begin, more than two years of no payments will have passed.
Why stop there, Joe?
Now that left managed to get its own way again, it is seeing if maybe it can get Biden to cancel a large portion of student loan debt while he is at it. Some on the left have argued that Biden, using executive action, could cancel as much as $50,000 per federal student loan borrower. Up until now, however, Biden has refused to get on board with this one.
We’ll have to see if Biden gives in on this as well. It would certainly fit well with the trend.
