Pressure mounts for Pelosi to remove Swalwell from Intel panel over ties to suspected spy

A bombshell report this week revealed that Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) carried on a years-long relationship with a woman believed to be a Chinese spy.

In light of that news, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) issued a clear call for Swalwell to be removed from his position on the House Intelligence Committee.

“Jeopardizing national security”

“This is a national security threat,” McCarthy proclaimed during a recent Fox News Channel appearance. “This man should not be in the Intel Committee,” he added, according to Fox.

The GOP leader went on to assert that Swalwell is “jeopardizing national security,” demanding to know when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was made aware of the issue as well as why she allowed him to keep a position on the influential panel.

For her part, Pelosi has maintained her support for Swalwell, as evidenced in her reaction to the scandal during a press conference this week.

“I don’t have any concerns about Mr. Swalwell,” she declared, according to the New York Post.

In response to McCarthy’s inquiries, Pelosi affirmed that when Swalwell’s connection to the suspected spy “was made known to the members of Congress, it was over,” concluding that it “was the end of any communication with those people,” according to Axios.

“His regular companion”

As for the Republican leader, Pelosi reportedly attributed his motives to an effort “to deflect attention from the fact that he has QAnon in his delegation.”

Axios identified the alleged spy as Fang Fang, also known as Christine Fang, and stated that she had been known to engage in “campaign fundraising, extensive networking, personal charisma, and romantic or sexual relationships with at least two Midwestern mayors” as part of her suspected efforts to gain intelligence for China.

As for her connection to Swalwell’s fledgling political career, Fang reportedly worked with him for years, including during his 2014 House re-election bid.

Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson also expressed outrage over the recent revelations. “Fang became his regular companion,” he said during a recent segment of his program, according to Fox. “She was photographed with Swalwell at political events several times and became a financial bundler for his campaigns.”

At this point, there seem to be more questions about the growing controversy than answers. And sadly, Pelosi doesn’t seem willing to speak up.
