The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has charged a man who participated in the recent pro-abortion “protests” with attempted murder, the New York Post reports.
The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Michael Ortiz.
The incident took place in downtown Los Angeles, California, on Friday. There, pro-abortion protestors gathered in response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s overruling of Roe v. Wade, returning the issue of whether or not abortion ought to be legal or illegal to the people and their state legislators.
While some of the protestors were peaceably assembled, not all of them were.
The LAPD stated, “the vast majority of those involved were peaceful and law-abiding, however, a much smaller group of individuals took to the streets with the intention of creating chaos and destruction.”
Apparently, Ortiz allegedly fell into the latter category.
What did he do?
According to the LAPD, as the “protests” extended into the evening, things got more and more out of control.
Authorities say that members of the crowd began “throwing fireworks and other makeshift weapons” at the officers. Ortiz, however, allegedly took things to another level.
He is accused of making a makeshift flamethrower and throwing it at an officer. This is why Ortiz has been charged with attempted murder. It is not exactly clear how bad the officer’s injuries are: it is being reported that the officer did have to be treated for burns.
Besides Ortiz, another individual was arrested by the LAPD, namely, 23-year-old Juliana Bernado. She allegedly attempted to steal a police officer’s baton, which resulted in her being shot with a “less-lethal” bullet” and arrested.
Unlawful assembly declared
Breitbart News reports that the officers ended up having to declare “an unlawful assembly late in the night after protesters filled downtown streets and some briefly blocked traffic on two freeways.” Now, the LAPD is said to be going after anyone who engaged in criminal activity on Friday night.
Let’s not forget that this response from the left is all because the U.S. Supreme Court has returned to U.S. citizens the right to decide whether or not abortion ought to be legal. It is for this reason that a man allegedly decided to wield a flamethrower against police – in a state, nonetheless, in which abortion is legal. This is next-level insanity.
