Pro boxer killed in alleged road rage incident

Professional boxer Danny Kelly Jr. was killed in a shooting that reportedly involved a road rage incident in Maryland.

The boxer was shot on Christmas Eve while traveling to a holiday event. Another vehicle pulled up to Kelly’s vehicle and fired shots, according to police.

Kelly’s girlfriend and three children were in the car, but were unharmed.

A Heartbreaking Loss

“This is an absolutely heartbreaking loss for Mr. Kelly’s family and friends. He is not home with his loved ones today on Christmas who are now mourning his loss instead of celebrating the holiday,” Acting Major David Blazer of Prince George’s County Police Department’s Major Crimes Division said in a statement.

“St. Barnabas Road is a heavily traveled roadway. If any other drivers saw anything there on Christmas Eve or may have information that could help, please call us. You can stay anonymous. We are committed to providing answers to his family,” the statement added.

The shooter is still being sought in the incident.

The Details

“On December 24, 2021, at approximately 4:40 pm, patrol officers were called to the 4400 block of St. Barnabas Road. They discovered Kelly unresponsive in the driver’s seat of an SUV suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead a short time later at a hospital,” police said in the statement.

A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for assistance in the case.

The tragic event led to many sharing their condolences and reflections on Kelly’s life.

He leaves behind three children and a girlfriend, as well as many friends and family members who mourn the loss of someone they loved.
