Progressive groups want bishop removed from pro-life panel over criticism of Biden’s positions

A Catholic bishop is facing calls for him to be effectively silenced after he admonished President Joe Biden for supporting abortion.

Two progressive groups have joined in an effort to call out Archbishop Joseph Naumann of Kansas City, insisting that he should not question Biden’s “devout” faith, according to Breitbart.

“Contrary to Catholic moral teaching”

Faith in Public Life and Faithful America reportedly teamed up to circulate a petition to see Naumann removed from the U.S. bishop’s pro-life committee.

The backlash stems from Naumann’s statement in February that he believes Biden should be denied communion in the Catholic Church because of his support for the moral atrocity of abortion, adding that the president is “usurping the role of the Bishops and confusing people” through his interpretation of the faith’s teachings.

“The president should stop defining himself as a devout Catholic and acknowledge that his view on abortion is contrary to Catholic moral teaching,” the bishop said at the time.

He went on to suggest that it would be “more honest” for Biden “to say he disagreed with his Church on this important issue and that he was acting contrary to Church teaching.”

For those representing certain progressive organizations, however, it is Naumann who is no longer aligned with Catholic doctrine. According to the petition, he is acting out of personal animosity and a desire to be seen as a “culture warrior” by speaking out on the hot-button issue of abortion.

“Choosing the culture wars”

The groups dismiss his opposition as a “single-issue, culture-war attack” on the nation’s second Catholic commander in chief. Indeed, the petition claims Biden “regularly demonstrates how important faith is to his personal life.”

Through Naumann’s public statements “questioning Biden’s faith and even claiming he should not receive Communion,” the petitioners say he “is choosing the culture wars over pastoral leadership.”

Both of the groups behind this push reportedly advocate for far-left “social justice” theology and have previously targeted religious leaders who align with former President Donald Trump. According to Breitbart, Faith in Public Life is partially funded by controversial leftist billionaire George Soros.

For his part, however, Naumann declared that it is “the responsibility” of bishops to “correct” Biden, adding that the president “cannot define what it is to be a Catholic and what Catholic moral teaching is.”

Some Catholic organizations have defended him, including CatholicVote, which reportedly recognized his “courage in transmitting ‘sound doctrine’ and for your commitment to defending the most vulnerable among us.”

    1. Really people a priest does not believe in abortion. Can you be a little more stupid. It is his right on the panel to agree or disagree. As to if Joe is a Catholic please.

  2. Taking of a baby’s life is murder any way one looks at the matter. At one point my life I was of the opinion that whatever a woman did with her body was her business and of no concern to others. That is not what the Bible teaches and come one day we all will have to account for out belief’s. So we all should take heed.

  3. The Catholic Church has an inept Pope. You can’t teach abortion is wrong and stand idly by. biden should be excommunicated from the church.

  4. Joe Biden is not a Christian. He believes in murdering babies. The progressive group are evil lying communist murderers. Please leave America you have no morals. A bunch of uneducated fools thinking murder is a good thing for babies but not for criminals who murder people. You brain dead and useless to America. Please go away. Your submission to evil is disgusting.

  5. As a Practicing Catholic, I Can Not Understand How Any Supposed Catholic Can Receive Holy Communion When That Person Does Not Follow the Church Laws Including the Mandates Set By the Pope, Bishops and Priests. I Was Taught as a Youngster it is Very Sinful to Receive Holy Communion When a Catholic Person is Not Following the Ten Commandments, the Laws of the Church and in an Extreme Sinful State.

  6. The Bishop is absolutely correct. This guy is no more catholic than the man in the Moon!! He is a catholic when he says he is but does not abide by the teachings of the church! Abortion, and several Commandment violations are fine with him. He is like the RHINO’s, he is a Catholic in name only!!!

  7. Both of those organizations are Leftist. It makes you wonder what parts pf the Bible they hold dear. Obviously it’s not the Ten Commandments.

  8. I am a Christian, though not Catholic. All Christian doctrine should be grounded in God’s Holy Word, the Bible. When mankind tries to transform God’s written word to fit our lifestyle or our ideals, we are wrong & should be brought to task by our religious leaders. God’s word is very clear. Romans 12:2 tells us “not to be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable & perfect”. God, throughout his word, is caring & loving to all. God values All of His creations. One of those, being Life itself. Isaiah 44:2 “Thus says the Lord who made you And formed you from the womb” is clear on how & where God created us. Does any of mankind have the right to put an end to God’s creations? No. By doing this is putting our will before God’s will. And to deny this is being conformed to the world’s ideology, not God’s will!

  9. If Biden & Pelosi are such strong catholics where were they when it was let known, way back in history, that catholic’s do not believe in aboration. I feel it is disgraceful that that the two of them receive ashes and communion and think it is okay to kill a helpless baby. It is against the church and they both know it. However they both think they are above the law and above the church’s teaching and still call them selves a good catholic, that is the most ridiculous.

  10. As a Catholic he should be excommunicated. I married A divorced person and could nog receive the sacraments. What makes him special.

    1. For at least 3years and about 10 months, at least. If we are still allowed to vote after this presidential term, we might be able to change it.

  12. Wow! Anyone who disagrees with us, we are coming after you? How is this freedom of speech? How is this tolerance to a party that claims tolerance? Archbishop Naumann is right! Abortion is not just one of many issues. If life cannot begin, how can we even look at other issues? In fact, in ‘Faithful Citizenship,’ the document used to guide Catholics on voting called, abortion the pre-eminent issue.
