Progressive pundit blames Biden for ineffectively messaging Dem accomplishments

President Joe Biden has seen his popularity plummet over the past year, including among some in his own party.

A one-time aide for progressive U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), for example, recently shared a harsh critique of the president.

“That is a real challenge”

Corbin Trent, who founded the No Excuses political action committee, participated in a round of media interviews this week — including a Fox News Channel appearance on Friday.

Like others on the left, he argued that Biden and other party leaders have failed at effectively communicating the Democratic Party’s perceived accomplishments.

“What we’re seeing right now is a Democratic Party that has done a lot for the American people and has largely been unable to articulate what it’s doing and what it’s done,” Trent said. “That is a real challenge.”

As evidence of his theory, Trent referenced polls that show the GOP is poised to make major gains in the upcoming midterm elections. Biden, he said, bears much of the blame.

Not only is the president “deeply unpopular,” Trent said, but he is also “old as s***.”

“I think all bets are off”

All things considered, Trent determined that the incumbent president could face a primary challenge if he attempts to run for re-election in two years.

“So, if we see a midterm outcome where Democrats lose the House and God forbid the Senate, too, I think all bets are off, and we’ll see the Democratic Party trying to go in a different direction and sort of truncate its losses,” he said.

He went on to suggest that the outcome of the 2024 election could resemble 1992 when Bill Clinton proved victorious against incumbent President George H.W. Bush and independent Ross Perot.

In any case, Trent urged his party to make some big changes.

“I don’t know what will happen, but we’re not connecting,” he said. “Right now the American people are divided in how they feel about the economy, divided about how we’re handling the COVID pandemic. … We have to do a better job uniting the country. For whatever reason, President Biden has not been able to do that to this point.”
