Psaki worsens ethical dilemma with explicit attack on Fox News and reporter Peter Doocy

White House press secretary Jen Psaki, by her actions, has found herself to be in quite an ethical quandary that, were she not a member in good standing of the Democratic/media establishment, would potentially have cost her job and reputation already.

Psaki on Thursday doubled down on and repeated an explicit insult aimed at Fox News reporter Peter Doocy and attacked his network while she is rumored to have a deal in place to soon work for rival network MSNBC, RedState reported.

Psaki attacks Doocy, Fox News

The ethically dubious situation occurred as Psaki took part in a live recording of “Pod Save America,” a leftist podcast hosted by fellow Obama administration alums Jon Favreau, Jon Lovett, Dan Pfeiffer, and Tommy Vietor.

At one point in the discussion, one of the hosts asked Psaki if “Peter Doocy is a stupid son of a b—h or does he just play one on TV,” a reference to an incident in January when President Joe Biden was caught on a hot mic calling Doocy a “stupid son of a b—h” in response to a question about inflation.

In reply to the question about Doocy from the “Pod” hosts, Psaki said, “He works for a network that provides people with questions that — nothing personal to any individual, including Peter Doocy — but might make anyone sound like a stupid son of a b—h.”

Fox News responds

For what it is worth, the press secretary was reported to have quickly added that Doocy had exhibited incredible “grace” in response to the insult from Biden.

Nevertheless, the New York Post reported that Fox News issued a statement in response to Psaki’s initial sharp critique and defended its star White House reporter.

“In his role as White House correspondent, Peter Doocy’s job is to elicit truth from power for the American public,” a spokesperson for the network said. “His questions are his own, he is a terrific reporter and we are extremely proud of his work.”

Psaki’s ethical issue

As for the ethics of the situation — Psaki criticizing a rival network to her future employer while still working for the White House — the press secretary was thoroughly excoriated for her unethical behavior in an op-ed from the otherwise generally favorable Mediaite outlet.

“The bottom line is that Jen Psaki is a government employee who is openly criticizing a media outlet that is the competitor of her future employer,” Mediaite’s Colby Hall wrote.

Hall added, “If Psaki has a ‘handshake deal’ to join NBC after she officially leaves the briefing room podium, then she should reasonably be far more circumspect in not just her future briefings, but in any public appearance in which she is asked about competitors of her future employer.”

It will be interesting to see if there are any outraged cries of this being an “attack on the free press” that was heard in response to even the slightest criticism of the media from the Trump administration, but none has been heard thus far and we certainly aren’t holding our breath in that regard.
