President Joe Biden has faced renewed scrutiny of his family’s business deals in recent days amid reports that he set up several of his top aides with plum jobs for their children.
In response, White House press secretary Jen Psaki attempted to defend Biden against the inconvenient news, declaring that he is actually the most ethical president in the nation’s history.
“At least five”
During Monday’s press briefing, a reporter asked “what safeguards the administration has in place to make sure that the children of top officials don’t get preferential treatment in hiring.”
As usual, the devoted spokeswoman dismissed the premise of the question and plugged the White House talking point that Biden’s staff is a diverse team of experts.
“We have the highest ethical standards of any administration in history. A number of ethics officials have conveyed that,” Psaki said. “This is the most diverse administration in American history. So we certainly expect that everyone will abide by those high ethics standards.”
Of course, both Psaki’s sister and Biden chief of staff Ron Klain’s wife are among those who have reportedly secured prize jobs in the administration.
Additionally, “at least five” children of presidential aides are also working for the White House, according to the Washington Post, including individuals who are “mostly white and some of whom are wealthy.”
“This is ridiculous”
Some Democratic insiders were dismayed over the revelation despite prior controversies revealing Biden’s apparent history of using his influence to steer favors for his own family.
Walter Shaub, an expert in political ethics and strident critic of former President Donald Trump, summed up the situation: “This is a real ‘f*** you’ to us — and government ethics. … This is ridiculous. What a f***ing failure.”
Psaki and others working for the Biden administration, however, likely know that the Democratic Party lapdogs in the mainstream media will shy away from digging too deep on this or other issues.
After all, it seems White House reporters are too busy asking Biden what flavor of ice cream he likes best.
