Liberal students at a Missouri high school forced the cancellation of a conservative group’s meeting with riot-like tactics, the Daily Caller reports.Â
The incident took place at Lee’s Summit West High School. There, a chapter of the conservative Turning Point USA (TPUSA) group held a meeting in the school’s library that quickly descended into chaos.
The riot
Video of the event has been posted to social media. The video shows leftwing students crashing the meeting.
As student members of TPUSA attempted to discuss things with these leftwing students, the leftwing students could be heard shouting and jeering at the TPUSA students. Things quickly got out of control, with the leftwing students refusing to allow the meeting to continue, and so a school official decided to cancel the event.
Not long thereafter, a crash could be heard, and a school official could be heard telling someone to “come here.”
It appears that someone, reportedly a leftwing student “protester,” flipped over and smashed a glass table. Photos have been posted of the broken table.
The cover-up
Following the incident, Chad Herzog, the principal of the school, sent parents an email. What is garnering a lot of attention is what Herzog didn’t say, as much as what he did say.
Herzog said that the meeting was called off and that “a disciplinary issue” was addressed, but he didn’t mention just how violent the situation became with the breaking of the glass table.
What’s more, Herzog actually appeared to defend the rioting actions of the leftist students.
Herzog wrote that the leftwing students “attended the meeting to voice their concerns over the club.” This, of course, makes it sound as though the students were being a lot more peaceful than the video suggests.
TPUSA’s statement
TPUSA also put out a statement following the incident.
It reads:
No student should be threatened or intimidated with violence for being conservative and the administration should make a bold stand to condemn the attack on this club. Our brave TPUSA students at Lee’s Summit West High School in the suburbs of Kansas City, MO, faced down the left wing attempts to disrupt, bully, and then destroy school property, all to stop this meeting.
