Ravens player and Fox reporter Tony Siragusa dead at 55

Former Baltimore Raven and Fox Sports sideline reporter Tony Siragusa has died, announced the same day that the team lost a current team member.

In addition to Siragusa, linebacker Jaylen Ferguson was announced on Wednesday.

Siragusa’s career

“Siragusa, who played college ball at University of Pittsburgh, began his NFL career with the Indianapolis Colts as an undrafted free agent in 1990 and became a starter two years later. He signed with Baltimore in 1997, just after the team had moved from Cleveland,” The Daily Wire reported.

“The tackle was a cornerstone in formidable Ravens defense that also included future Hall of Famers Ray Lewis and Rod Woodson,” it added.

A tribute

“Renee and I are stunned and heartbroken to learn about the sudden passing of Tony Siragusa,” Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti said. “He was a special person and clearly one of the most popular players in Ravens history. Tony’s larger-than-life personality made an enormous impact on our organization and throughout the Baltimore community.

“On the football field, Goose was a difference-maker who contributed immeasurably to the success of many great Ravens defenses, including the record-setting 2000 Super Bowl team.

“Our deepest prayers and sympathies go out to Kathy, their three children and the rest of the Siragusa family. This is a tremendously sad day for the Baltimore Ravens. We appreciate everyone who has expressed an outpouring of support for our players, coaches and staff.”

The sad day of events for Ravens fans could be felt across the NFL as the losses were reflected in social media posts by players and fans as the news of Ferguson’s loss made the day even more tragic.

The loss of Siragusa is also a reminder of his great playing days of the past that led the Ravens to a Super Bowl and left a deep legacy in the history of the league.
