Rep. Boebert reacts to assault weapons ban: Guns ‘equalizer’ for women

Democrats eager to ban guns want to take away an “equalizer” that helps protect women, Republican Lauren Boebert said.

The conservative firebrand from Colorado shared her reaction Friday to House Democrats passing an assault weapon ban, Breitbart reported.

Guns are an “equalizer”

Hannity host Jason Chaffetz noted that Democrats like to disparage so-called “assault weapons” as unsuitable for hunting, but the right to bear arms has “nothing to do with hunting,” Boebert said.

“The Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting. And it certainly doesn’t have to do with anything with deers having Kevlar vests,” she said, making a reference to one of President Biden’s favorite gun talking points.

Guns rights are about self-defense, Boebert said, something that is especially valuable to vulnerable women.

“It’s actually an equalizer. Gun rights are women’s rights. And I need an equalizer to defend myself against a larger potential aggressor. That’s why most people carry. So they have a way to defend themselves.”

“And we have the Second Amendment to protect us from a tyrannical government. But this is important to me because I’m a mom of four boys. And I need a way to protect them, to defend our lives. And that is what this is all about.”

Power grab

House Democrats energized by recent mass shootings passed an assault weapon ban on Friday with help from two Republicans. Five Democrats voted no.

President Biden praised the “common sense” ban, saying it would make Americans safer.

Democrats are pushing for gun control because they want power, not because they care about public safety, Boebert said. She recalled the Democratic party’s support of the George Floyd riots of 2020 and the “defund the police” movement, which made many Americans buy firearms for their protection.

“Those supporting this legislation don’t care about your safety, they care about power,” she said.

Democrats notched their biggest victory on guns in decades in June when Republican senators agreed to pass legislation to fund red flag law enforcement.
