Report: Defense Department misidentifies UAE plane as US military aircraft

A new report claims a photo shared by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) on Sunday showing Afghan refugees boarding an airplane didn’t actually depict a U.S. Air Force C-17, but rather, showed a plane from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Users on Twitter were quick to correct the DoD on its post, pointing out that the aircraft pictured was clearly labeled as belonging to the UAE.

Among those to call out the Biden administration was Buzz Patterson, a Republican who lost a bid for Congress last November out of California’s 7th District.

Criticism on all sides

Some have argued that the DoD mistake is just one more reason for people to be concerned about the Biden administration’s handling of the situation in Afghanistan, which looks likely to lead to thousands of Americans being stuck in the nation now controlled by the Taliban.

The British Parliament voted Wednesday to condemn U.S. President Joe Biden over the Afghanistan situation, the BBC reported, with some calling Biden’s military withdrawal “catastrophic,” according to The Guardian.

One U.K. legislator even said Biden was “throwing us and everybody else to the fire” with the pullout, according to the Daily Signal.

“We deserve better”

In the U.S., the Democrat-chaired Senate Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committees have said they plan to investigate Biden’s withdrawal amid ongoing chaos in Kabul, the Associated Press notes.

Meanwhile, some Republicans are stepping up calls for Biden’s impeachment and removal over the botched withdrawal.

According to Fox News, Rep. Ronny Jackson, a Texas Republican who previously served as White House physician, has suggested the lack of action against Biden from Dems is yet another sign of the party’s hypocrisy.

“Americans deserve better,” Jackson said in a tweet Thursday.
