Report shows Taylor Swift and other celebrities have massive carbon footprint

While many celebrities are known for lectures about progressive causes like climate change, some of them aren’t very good at leading by example.

That’s obvious from a recent report put out by the digital marketing agency Yard. It found that several big-name figures are fond of carbon-emitting private jets, with singer Taylor Swift topping the list.

Almost 500 times more carbon in 7 months than a typical person emits in a year

Titled “Just Plane Wrong,” the report used data provided by Celebrity Jets to determine “the top celebrity private jet offenders.”

Its methodology involved looking at “the number of flights each star has taken so far, the average time of their flights, miles, and total CO2e just since the beginning of the year.”

The report concluded that the top ten flyers “emitted an average of 3376.64 tons of CO2 emissions in just their private jet usage in 2022 so far.” This amounts to “482.37 times more than the average person’s annual emissions.”

It noted that Swift took a total of 170 flights on her private jet between January 1 and July 29, adding up to a total of 22,923 minutes or 15.9 days spent in the air.

Yard described this figure as being “a large amount” of airtime given how Swift was not on tour during the time frame in question.

What’s more, many of her flights covered relatively short distances that could have been traveled by other means, with examples including a 36-minute flight from St. Louis to Nashville.

Other high flyers include Jay-Z and Blake Shelton

However, Swift was far from being the only jet-setting famous name to make the list, with others including boxer Floyd Mayweather, rapper Jay-Z, and country music singer Blake Shelton.

Interestingly, Yard pointed out that despite receiving criticism over her prominent jet use, Kylie Jenner didn’t even make the top ten list of carbon offenders, coming in at number 19.

The Yard study was reported on by Rolling Stone magazine, and the publication approached her representative for comment.

“Taylor’s jet is loaned out regularly to other individuals,” Swift’s spokesperson was quoted as telling Rolling Stone. “To attribute most or all of these trips to her is blatantly incorrect.”
