As President Joe Biden drags his feet with looking into the origins of the COVID-19 virus, according to the New York Post, Republicans have released a damning report that claims to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that it came from a lab in Wuhan, China.
Included in the report is new evidence that the Wuhan Institute of Virology requested “unusual” maintenance repairs shortly before the alleged outbreak.
“Preponderance of evidence”
The “preponderance of evidence” suggests the virus leaked from the lab “sometime prior to September 12, 2019,” the report’s authors said of their investigation, which was led by Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX), chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
Adding to speculation about substandard safety at the lab, the report notes that the lab requested repairs to waste management systems in July 2019 at the Wuhan National Biosafety Laboratory (WNBL), one of its two campuses, which opened in 2018.
“Such a significant renovation so soon after the facility began operation appears unusual,” the report states. Other repairs to air conditioning were requested, Fox News noted. Concerns about safety standards at the WIV had been raised for years beforehand, including by the U.S. State Department.
In the early morning of Sept. 12, 2019, the lab’s public database of virus samples was mysteriously shut down and the laboratory requested “gatekeepers, guards, video surveillance, security patrols, and people to handle the ‘registration and reception of foreign personnel.’”
Car traffic at hospitals near the laboratory increased in September through October 2019, and online searches for “cough” and “diarrhea” skyrocketed.
“Greatest cover-up of all time”
Dismissing the “wet market” theory, the report cites “ample evidence” that dangerous “gain-of-function” research was being carried out at the lab as recently as 2019 by Shi Zhengli, known as the “bat woman” for her research on bat coronaviruses.
The report concludes that the virus was likely collected from bat caves in China, then modified under substandard conditions at the laboratory before leaking. The Military World Games in October 2019 became a “key vector” in spreading it around the world.
At the time, athletes described Wuhan as a “ghost town” and complained of COVID-like symptoms. As the outbreak spread, the Chinese communist party panicked and sent an officer from the People’s Liberation Army to supervise the lab, the report alleges.
Scientists at the lab conspired with Peter Daszak, a key player in funding the research, to cover up the leak with a “disinformation” campaign.
“This was the greatest coverup of all time and has caused the deaths of more than four million people around world, and people must be held responsible,” McCaul said.
