More than 50 Republicans sent a letter to President Biden calling on him to take a cognitive test “immediately.”
The blunt letter, led by former White House doctor and congressman Ronny Jackson (R-Tx.), questioned whether Biden has dementia and described his condition as a “national security risk.”
Republicans call on Biden to take a cognitive test
The letter notes that Biden did not receive a cognitive test during his last physical examination, or else it wasn’t shared with the public.
While Biden’s doctor declared him fit, the polls reflect widespread skepticism of Biden’s health and disapproval of his leadership, the letter notes. The authors add bluntly, “we are worried about your mental abilities.”
“We believe that, regardless of gender, age, or political party, all Presidents should follow the example set by former President Trump to document and demonstrate sound mental abilities.”
The Republicans cited a recent New York Times article that politely addressed the issue of Biden’s age, noting, among other worrying signs, that Biden says things that often prompt corrections from his staff. In a notorious, consequential example, he called for Vladimir Putin to be overthrown.
During a recent trip to Israel, Biden said that said it is imperative to “keep alive the truth and honor of the Holocaust.”
Dems questioned Trump’s fitness
Biden’s actions “exemplify cognitive decline” according to criteria from the Alzheimer’s Association, the letter said. Biden’s symptoms include irritability, which Biden displayed when he called Fox News reporter Steve Doocy a “stupid son of a b—-” to his face.
While Biden’s cognitive issue is finally receiving cautious acknowledgments from Democrats and the media, the signs were there during his 2020 campaign, the Republicans recalled. At the time, Biden frequently got confused about where he was campaigning.
“On the campaign trail, you often forgot the names of states that you were in for campaign rallies, and in one instance misidentified the office you were running for,” the letter said.
The Republicans noted their request is hardly unprecedented, as Democrats clamored for President Trump to take a cognitive test and speculated about removing him from office through the 25th Amendment.
“To obtain the level of transparency that the American people deserve, we once again urge you to submit to a cognitive test immediately,” they wrote.
