Despite initial attempts by “experts” and talking heads in the media to dismiss the Wuhan lab leak as a “conspiracy theory,” there is a growing acceptance that COVID-19 very well may have originated in a Chinese lab.
Now, per the release of an April 2020 email, there is evidence that a U.S. researcher linked to the Wuhan lab personally thanked Dr. Anthony Fauci for his efforts to “dispel the myths” that the origin of the pandemic may have been a lab leak, The Daily Caller reported.
Where did COVID originate?
The email, dated April 18, 2020, was sent from Dr. Peter Daszak, president of the EcoHealth Alliance nonprofit group, to Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and chief White House adviser on the COVID pandemic.
Daszak’s EcoHealth Alliance had previously funneled at least $600,000 in NIAID grant funds to the Wuhan lab, which was conducting “gain of function” research on coronaviruses — attempting to make the viruses more deadly and transmissible as a way to better understand and guard against them in the future.
In the early days of the pandemic, some suggested that COVID-19 had accidentally leaked out of that lab, a theory that much of the media and some top medical and scientific officials, including Fauci, dismissed out of hand at that time and for many months afterward.
“Dispel the myths”
Daszak’s email to Fauci, which was part of more than 3,200 Fauci-related emails obtained by BuzzFeed News by way of a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, thanked the infectious disease expert for trying to end speculation about a lab leak origin for COVID-19.
“I just wanted to say a personal thank you on behalf of our staff and collaborators, for publicly standing up and stating that the scientific evidence supports a natural origin for COVID-19 from a bat-to-human spillover, not a lab release from the Wuhan Institute of Virology,” Daszak wrote.
Following a completely redacted paragraph — using a code indicating that the text could reasonably be expected to interfere with law enforcement proceedings, according to The Daily Caller — Daszak added, “From my perspective, your comments are brave, and coming from your trusted voice, will help dispel the myths being spun around the virus’ origins.”
In response to that message, Fauci simply replied, “Many thanks for your kind note.”

Fauci has since shifted
Fast-forward a year since that email, and Fauci is now reportedly “not convinced” that COVID-19 developed naturally in bats and was transmitted to humans, and while he certainly hasn’t embraced the lab leak origin theory, he has left a door open to that being a possibility.
The Daily Caller noted that Daszak, however, has remained insistent that the Wuhan lab he helped fund is in no way responsible for the pandemic, and has on numerous occasions reiterated that speculation about a lab leak is nothing more than a “conspiracy theory.”
