The chaos in Afghanistan is continuing to compound, with Fox News reporting Tuesday that the State Department had warned Americans stranded there following the withdrawal of U.S. troops not to approach Kabul’s airport for evacuation as Taliban forces tightened their grip on the Afghan capital.
As far as former Navy SEAL and Wisconsin congressional hopeful Derrick Van Orden is concerned, the development is just further proof that it’s time for mass resignations at the White House.
The Republican candidate’s comments came this weekend during an interview with Breitbart News Saturday host Matthew Boyle. In it, Van Orden stressed that the humanitarian disaster currently unfolding in Kabul could have been avoided.
“This did not need to happen”
Now, he wants those responsible for the chaos to be held accountable. “It is an unmitigated disaster, and it did not need to happen,” the Navy veteran complained, according to Breitbart. “Let’s just be super clear about that. This did not need to happen.”
He added: “And if you think about that last presser that Joe Biden did, what he said that wasn’t inaccurate or misinformed was intentionally disingenuous or a lie.”
Van Orden said the president had claimed “the Taliban have given American citizens free passage to get to the airports.” But that was far from the case, the Republican said.
“That was directly contradicted by the Secretary of Defense saying that Americans are being beaten in the street and now they’re saying they stay away from the airfield,” Van Orden opined. “So, [Biden] has no concept of what’s going on in the ground.”
Time for new leadership?
What’s more, though Biden claimed in an interview with ABC News last week that there’s no friction with America’s allies amid the debacle, Van Orden said the reality is very different.
“He’s saying that everything is fine with our NATO allies,” the former Navy SEAL remarked of Biden, according to Breitbart. “I have been speaking to my NATO allies that I fought with in Afghanistan, and they are furious. They’re absolutely furious.”
According to Van Orden, our allies feel “they’ve been abandoned by America.”
“About 90 plus percent of what the entire Biden administration is put out about this crisis in Afghanistan is a lie because they created the mess,” he told Breitbart. “So Secretary [of State Anthony] Blinken, Secretary [of Defense Lloyd] Austin, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff [Gen. Mark] Milley, and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, they need to tender their resignations now.”
Van Orden declared that “the American people have lost confidence in the National Security Council, and the members of the United States military have lost confidence in the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the Secretary of Defense.” With that, he said, it’s time for new leadership in Washington. And it can’t come soon enough.
