Ron DeSantis says he wouldn’t be caught dead at White House correspondents’ dinner

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) knows his every move is being closely watched by the conservative base, as speculation continues to mount that the Florida governor and would-be Trump successor will run for president in 2024.

In his latest play to show off his anti-establishment cred, Big Ron ripped the White House correspondents’ dinner — saying he would never attend the notorious gathering of liberal stuffed shirts, the New York Post reports.

DeSantis slams WHCA dinner

DeSantis was mentioned by liberal court jester Trevor Noah, who hosted this year’s event.

“One of my favorites, Ron DeSantis, is here,” Noah said. “Oh man, I’m actually surprised that he found the time. You know he has been so busy trying to outmaneuver Trump for 2024. I see you, Ron. I see you, player.”

But DeSantis noted at a press conference Monday that he did not attend — and in fact, he wouldn’t be caught dead hanging out with what he described as a “cabal” of dishonest reporters. The conservative champion added that the liberal elite’s reputation for deception is “well-deserved.”

“I would never attend that,” he said. “I have no interest in that.”

“Why they would want to perpetuate a lie about that I don’t know,” DeSantis added. “But I think it just shows you why that cabal of people in DC, NY is so reviled by so many Americans. I think it’s a reputation that’s been well-deserved.”

Taking a cue from Trump

President Trump had snubbed the dinner throughout his presidency — understandably, given the media’s relentlessly hostile and dishonest coverage of him.

DeSantis has received similarly hateful coverage, owing to his aggressive, Trump-like embrace of the culture war.

It looks like DeSantis is taking yet another cue from Trump’s playbook. Smart. If the governor wants ordinary Americans to know he’s on their side, the last thing he should be doing is hanging out with a bunch of out-of-touch, elitist liars, gossips, and woke smear merchants.

The event was billed as a return to the pre-Trump norm, in those calm days before Trump and his “deplorable” supporters dared to challenge the liberal elites’ power.

Of course, President Joe Biden did receive a roasting from well-behaved regime lap dog Noah — albeit a gentle one — over his tanking approval numbers and poor handling of the economy.
