The Democrats can’t keep protecting Joe Biden, according to Rush Limbaugh.
The conservative radio host predicted on his Monday show that the self-styled party of women will wish away Biden’s candidacy over an increasingly credible sexual assault allegation against him, the Washington Examiner reported. “Something’s gonna happen,” Limbaugh insisted, according to the Examiner.
Disappearing from the ticket?
Biden’s campaign was rocked in March when Tara Reade, a former Senate aide who worked for Biden during a brief time in the 1990s, claimed that he sexually assaulted her in a Capitol hallway, as NPR reported. For the most part, the media and the Democratic Party have done everything possible to studiously ignore Reade’s claim — but it has gotten harder.
Biden publicly addressed Reade’s claim for the first time in a combative interview last week on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, where he emphatically denied the accusation. “I don’t remember any type of complaint she may have made. It was 27 years ago,” the former vice president said, according to the Examiner. “I don’t remember, nor does anyone else that I’m aware of,” he added.
Since the claim surfaced, the Dems have been exposed as #MeToo hypocrites, Limbaugh said Monday, calling Reade’s story more believable than Christine Blasey Ford’s about now-Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Even still, Democrats could not justifiably deny Biden the party’s White House nomination if he has the delegates, so the media and Democratic Party elites will have to find some other way to get rid of him, Limbaugh surmised.
Limbaugh also noted that The New York Times published an editorial calling on Democrats to investigate Biden, which he called a “coded message” to the former VP to withdraw his candidacy. He said that Biden “cannot campaign” and that Democrats “cannot let him out of the basement,” or voters will realize he’s a dud.
“They know,” the radio host said, according to the Examiner. “At the highest levels of the Democrat National Committee, they know that Joe Biden has got to go. Nonstarter.”
Dems left reeling
Before the Reade claim surfaced, Biden had already faced speculation that he was losing control of his mental faculties. Limbaugh, in that light, said Monday that he can’t see Biden going toe-to-toe with Trump in debates, either.
“They can’t possibly, they can’t possibly go into the race with the guy on the ticket,” the radio host said, the Examiner reported. “He couldn’t withstand one debate with Trump if there were any debates.”
With the coronavirus disrupting campaigning, Biden has been holding media interviews from the basement of his home in Delaware. Many have said that Biden is reaping an advantage from staying in hiding, but even liberals seem to sense that it can’t go on forever.
Still, some Biden supporters have said that they believe Reade but will not give up their support. The New York Times published an article Wednesday titled, “I believe Tara Reade. I’m voting for Joe Biden anyway.”
How widespread is that cynicism? And is it enough to carry Biden to the convention? Only time will tell.
