Russian troops abduct American missionary pastor

In disturbing news, the Daily Wire has reported that an American missionary has been kidnapped by Russian troops.

The website pointed to a story carried by NBC News which said that 50-year-old Dmitry Bodyu was taken from his home on March 20 in the Ukrainian city of Melitopol.

“Are you guys American citizens?”

His wife, Helen Bodyu, told the network that Russian soldiers raided demanded to know if her husband, who came to the United States as a teenager from the Soviet Union, was an American citizen.

“They just came in in the morning,”  Mrs. Bodyu explained, adding, “They took our phones, gadgets, computers, documents — and took him somewhere. I don’t know where.”

Her daughter, Esther Bodyu-Ogawa, lives in Hawaii and she gave a similar account, saying, “They walked in and they just started kind of questioning him right away, like, ‘Are you guys American citizens?’ — that’s kind of, like, one of the first questions they had.”

Bodyu’s Instagram page identifies him as the pastor of Word of Life Church in Melitopol, and Bodyu-Ogawa said her father was tending to his flock before being abducted.

“All he’s doing is just helping such a huge amount of people that were hiding in the church, which was, like, over 50 people,” she stated. “And he was feeding all of them, too, throughout this whole situation.”

“We’re praying for him, and we’re praying that he’s strong”

“It could be because we’re American citizens,” Bodyu-Ogawa continued. “It could be because he’s, you know, a big influencer.”

“A lot of people follow him and really want to know what he’s preaching about and what he’s telling people, making sure he’s not, like, talking about Russia and trying to tell people, ‘Yes, this is a bad thing.'”

“I know they were going through all of his preaching videos, because that’s what they told my mom when they came back on Monday, to bring all their computers and phones back,” she explained.

“We’re just hoping for the best, and we’re praying for him, and we’re praying that he’s strong,” Bodyu-Ogawa concluded.

NBC News reported that the State Department is aware of reports regarding Bodyu’s abduction but offered no comment due to concerns over his privacy.
