Former Sanders staffers sound off over Biden sex assault claim: ‘Corporate Democrats chose Biden’

Former staffers for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign are sounding off about a sexual assault allegation against former Vice President Joe Biden, the Washington Examiner reported Saturday.

While much of the mainstream media has continued to ignore the claim aginst Biden, progressive former Sanders staffers have taken to calling out the Democrat establishment for allowing an alleged sexual predator to consolidate the party’s presidential nomination.

“Without my consent”

The allegation against Biden comes from one of Uncle Joe’s former Senate staffers. According to NPR, Tara Reade, who is now 56, says Biden assaulted her in an empty hallway at the Capitol in 1993, when she was working for the then-Delaware senator.

“His hands went underneath my clothing and he was touching me in my private areas and without my consent,” Reade, who has since filed a police report over the incident, reportedly told NPR. Multiple people close to Reade later corroborated her story, saying she told them about it at the time, a report from Business Insider notes.

Since then, new evidence has surfaced showing an anonymous woman from California, allegedly Reade’s mother, calling in to CNN’s Larry King Live in 1993 to ask how a staffer could hold a “prominent senator” accountable for alleged harassment. Take a look at video of the call, shared by the Examiner:

“Corporate Democrats chose Biden”

The Biden campaign, for its part, has vehemently denied the allegation, NPR notes. But their denials haven’t convinced many progressives, including former campaign employees for self-proclaimed democratic socialist Bernie Sanders.

According to the Examiner, Winnie Wong, a former senior adviser to the Sanders campaign, tweeted on Friday: “The video of Tara Reade’s late mother calling into Larry King to blow the whistle [about] Tara’s sexual assault is being met with relative silence from a cadre of progressives right now and I want you all to know that I see you. We all do.”

Wong was joined in her criticism of the left’s hypocrisy by Sanders’ former national press secretary, Briahna Joy Gray, the Examiner reported.

It is noteworthy that while Biden’s campaign and his more high-profile supporters have been compelled to address the issue of the alleged sexual assault, the presumptive Democratic nominee has yet to be asked directly about it by anyone in the media, despite having done multiple interviews since the allegation first emerged.

At least in the eyes of these former Sanders staffers, it seems the Democrat establishment is hard at work.
