Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom has imposed some of the country’s most severe coronavirus-related restrictions, including a directive to severely limit holiday gatherings on Thanksgiving.
Among those who are displeased with the governor’s draconian measures is comedian Rob Schneider who mocked Newsom’s policies in a series of tweets on Saturday, the Washington Examiner reported.
Harsh rules for the holidays
Addressing Newsom as “emperor,” Schneider tweeted, “During our allotted 3 family limit this Thanksgiving, if my Aunt comes over, can I throw her a slice of turkey from the window?”
“We promise NOT to sing… we will all just whisper,” the long-time comic continued, adding, “PLEASE RECALL DIPS**T GAVIN NEWSON!”
Schneider also linked to a story in the California Globe on the “Mandatory Requirements for All Gatherings” order issued in October by the California Department of Public Health.
Under the order’s provision, gatherings can only involve individuals from no more than 3 separate households and are not to last over 2 hours.
US News & World Reports quoted Newsom as saying, “We are entering into the holidays, but also we’re entering into part of the year where things cool down and people are more likely to congregate back indoors in settings that put their physical proximity and likelihood of transmission and transmitting disease at higher risk.”
Newsom goes maskless at winery
This isn’t the first time Schneider has taken shots at Newsom over the way he has governed the state.
On Tuesday, the comedian tweeted a picture of Newsom visiting an upscale winery without a mask.
“Enjoy @GavinNewsom 2020 Vintage Wine! A Smokey ash flavored Cab with hints of incompetence & authoritarian overstepping,” he joked, referencing the governor’s habit of blaming wildfires on climate change rather than his poor forest management polices.
Schneider continued, “Who needs science? Just Lock yourself down & go bankrupt with this morally corrupt table wine with it’s bouquet of one man dictatorial rule & 16.8% tax!”
Another tweet from Schneider linked to a story about deceased California residents receiving mail in ballots. The comedian remarked, “Nothing to see here! Please move it along! Just dead people voting in California. Maybe… It’s Governor @GavinNewsom way of celebrating Halloween!
