Secret Service prepared to testify against 1/6 committee’s star witness

On Tuesday, during a “surprise” installment of the 1/6 House select committee hearings, a former top aide to Mark Meadows, former President Donald Trump’s chief of staff, provided what many believed to be bombshell testimony that the left is using to attempt to paint the former president as an evil insurrectionist.

One of the surprises from Cassidy Hutchinson, the committee’s star witness, was her retelling of a story in which it was claimed that Trump, in a fit of rage after being told he wouldn’t be driven to the Capitol on Jan. 6 after his speech, reached up and grabbed the arm of the driver of the “Beast” presidential limo.

However, according to Breitbart, the account told by Hutchinson was not only misleading, but it was also apparently completely false, and that’s coming from the person — the lead Secret Service agent on Trump’s detail that day — directly involved in what happened.

Even more worrisome for the 1/6 witchhunt committee is the news that broke Tuesday night in that Bobby Engel, the lead agent, and the presidential limousine/SUV driver, are prepared to testify to counter Hutchinson’s claims.

The claim

The testimony provided by Hutchinson on Tuesday quickly made the breaking news circuit, especially throughout the liberal media world, with hosts and pundits using words like “stunning,” and, “shocking,” to describe her account.

“Tony proceeded to tell me that when the president got in the Beast, he was under the impression from Mr. Meadows that the off-the-record movement to the Capitol was still possible and likely to happen but that Bobby had more information,” Hutchinson began.

She added: “As the president had gotten into the vehicle with Bobby, he thought that they were going up to the Capitol. And when Bobby had relayed to him that we’re not; we don’t have the assets to do it; it’s not secure; we’re going back to the West Wing, the president had a very strong, very angry response to that.”

“The president reached up towards the front of the vehicle to grab at the steering wheel. Mr. Engel grabbed his arm, said, ‘Sir, you need to take your hand off the steering wheel, we’re going back to the West Wing, we’re not going to the Capitol.’ Mr. Trump then used his free hand to lunge towards Bobby Engel,” she concluded.

Dramatic twist

The original reporting that Engel and the Beast driver would testify contrary to Hutchinson’s claims came from none other than Peter Alexander, NBC’s chief White House correspondent and, as Breitbart noted, the furthest thing from a Trump ally.

Other left-leaning news outlets quickly confirmed the same information, making it clear that the U.S. Secret Service, and those in charge of Trump’s detail on that day, are fully prepared to make it crystal clear that no physical assaults happened that day.

Breitbart added: “Should the report prove accurate and Bobby Engel’s testimony hold up, it will be a huge blow to the January 6 committee.”
