Dr. Anthony Fauci made headlines this week when he announced plans to retire from government service this coming December.
Yet while the National Institutes of Health (NIH) head and White House COVID advisor may be on the way out, one Republican lawmaker recently warned him not to destroy his documents.
Sen. Rand Paul sends formal request
According to the Daily Caller, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul issued that warning in a sent a letter to acting NIH chief Dr. Lawrence A. Tabak, saying, “In light of this announcement, I formally request you ensure the preservation of all documents and communications within Dr. Fauci’s possession related to his tenure at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).”
“This information is critical to ensure that Congress has access to information necessary to conduct proper oversight regarding events that took place during Dr. Fauci’s tenure with the agency,” he continued.
“Specifically, I request you preserve all records, e-mail, electronic documents, and data created by or shared with Dr. Fauci during his tenure at NIH that relate to COVID-19 including, but not limited to, NIAID-funded coronavirus research,” the conservative senator stressed.
Paul went on to add that his “preservation request also includes all records of official business conducted on non official accounts.”
What’s more, the Kentucky Republican alleged to the Daily Caller Fauci had engaged in a pattern of dishonesty which warrants suspicion.
“Dr. Fauci misled the American people on public health guidance throughout the pandemic, lied to Congress under oath, and funneled tax dollars to fund dangerous research in communist China,” Paul complained.
“The American people deserve transparency and accountability from the NIH regarding the COVID-19 pandemic regardless of Dr. Fauci’s future employment plans.”
Louisiana Republican predicts Fauci will spend a lot of time” on Capitol Hill
Paul is not the only high-profile Republican to suggest that Fauci needs to provide answers, as Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy said the same during a recent interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity.

Kennedy predicted that Fauci’s only alternative to spending “a lot of time in front of a congressional committee” is to “seek asylum in some foreign country whose Powerball jackpot is 287 chickens and a goat.”
