Senate committee chairman says report shows Joe Biden lied about Hunter

The Senate committees on homeland security and finance released a joint report earlier this month demonstrating the corrupt practices and questionable financial dealings of members of former Vice President Joe Biden’s family with foreign entities, including his son Hunter Biden, his brother James Biden, and his sister-in-law Sara Biden, Fox News reported.

During an appearance on Fox News Channel’s Sunday Morning Futures over the weekend, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI), the chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, said the report’s findings show Biden has lied about his knowledge of Hunter’s dealings.

“Well, I hate to say it, but Joe Biden is lying to the American public,” Johnson told host Maria Bartiromo.

Flashback

Johnson was specifically referring to an interview from December 2019 with Axios on HBO, during which Biden was asked about his son Hunter’s position on the board of the Ukrainian energy firm Burisma.

Hunter obtained this lucrative job without having any real credentials that would qualify him to be on the board, other than that his father happened to be the vice president of the United States at the time.

During the interview, Biden was asked, “What’s your understanding of what your son was doing for an extraordinary amount of money?”

“I don’t know what he was doing,” Biden replied. “I know he was on the board. I found out he was on the board after he was on the board. And that was it.”

The interviewer then asked Biden: “Isn’t this something you want to get to the bottom of?” Biden responded, “No, because I trust my son.”

Johnson says it’s a lie

According to Johnson, Biden was lying through his teeth in this interview. The senator backed his claim up with evidence found by his committee’s investigation. Johnson explained:

When he said in the tail end of 2019 that he never spoke to his son about his overseas business dealings, that was a lie. We know in testimony now from Amos Hochstein, who is the only people of we know of that actually spoke directly to the vice president about this glaring conflict of interests, the vice president then talked to Hunter, who then set up a meeting with Amos Hochstein to talk about this very subject.

Indeed, based on the report’s findings, it is becoming increasingly difficult to believe that Biden was not aware of what his son was doing. As the Democratic nominee for president, it’s long past time that Biden was held accountable.
