Singer Nick Cave announces death of his 31-year-old son

The Australian singer-songwriter Nick Cave has announced the death of his 31-year-old son Jethro Lazenby, the Associated Press reports

Cave made the announcement on Tuesday, saying, “with much sadness, I can confirm that my son, Jethro, has passed away.”

Cave added that he and his family “would be grateful for family privacy at this time.”

What we know:

Lazenby, prior to his death, had been in prison since March 7. He had been arrested after getting into an argument with his mother and physically assaulting her, causing bruises and bleeding. He pled guilty to unlawful assault and to breaching court orders.

Lazenby was just released from prison this week on bail, and it was roughly a day later that he was found dead in his motel room in Melbourne.

A cause of death has yet to be released. It is currently being determined by a coroner. Authorities, though, have said that there are no indications that Lazenby was the victim of a crime.

Second tragedy

Lazenby was the son of Cave and model Beau Lazenby. He was born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1991.

He was a fashion model, a photographer, a rapper, and an actor. To help his career, he often went by the name Jethro Cave.

Lazenby was the eldest of Cave’s four children, who were all boys. And, this is not the first time that Cave has tragically lost one of his children.

In 2015, he lost one of the twin sons that he had with his wife, Susie Cave. Arthur Cave was 15-years-old at the time of his death. He fell off of a cliff in England after taking the psychedelic drug LSD.

For those unfamiliar with Cave, he is probably best known for the “Red Right Hand” song from the 1994 movie Dumb and Dumber, starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. The song plays as Carrey’s character, Lloyd Christmas, comes out of the convenience store after spending the remainder of his and Harry Dunne’s (Daniel’s character) money on liquor.

Cave is the frontman of the rock band that is known as Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds.
