Some Democrats have begun to criticize Biden administration’s border policy

According to Fox News, the Biden administration is set to rescind Title 42, a Trump-era policy under which illegal migrants could be swiftly deported.

The move has been met by widespread opposition, with even some members of President Biden’s own party turning on him.

Some Democrats now alarmed by situation along America’s border

Among them is New Hampshire Sen. Maggie Hassan, who expressed her concerns earlier this month in a video posted to Twitter.

“My trip to the southern border reinforced my concerns about the administration preemptively ending Title 42,” Hassan said after touring the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas and Arizona in early April.

“Border agents were very clear with me that the end of Title 42 will lead to a steep increase of attempted crossings that they will not be able to effectively handle because they don’t have enough resources.”

Fox News noted that Hassan is not alone among Democrats in voicing worries over Title 42 being ended, as Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly did so last week as well.

“Right now we have a crisis on our southern border,” Kelly is reported to have said last week following a meeting with U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials at the Douglas Port of Entry.

“Title 42 was put in place because of a public health emergency. It shouldn’t be around forever, but right now this administration does not have a plan. I warned them about this months ago,” he continued.

Beto O’Rourke opposes lifting Title 42

Interestingly, even some on the Democratic Party’s far left are expressing skepticism over the wisdom of ending Title 42.

Texas Democratic gubernatorial nominee Beto O’Rourke told the Texas Tribune in a recent interview, “It does not make sense to end this until there is a real plan and the capacity in place to handle those and address those that come over.”

“I have yet to hear a plan from the Biden administration to address the dynamic we will have on the border once Title 42 ends,” O’Rourke added.

Those objections come even as Fox News has reported that last month saw a record number of illegal border crossings.
