While millions of Americans are deeply concerned about the outcome of the 2020 election, few people appear to be as personally invested as billionaire investor and activist George Soros.
With days left before Election Day, Soros has multiplied his efforts to help Democratic nominee Joe Biden and the Democrats win with nearly $70 million in spending, the Washington Free Beacon reported.
Soros breaking fundraising records
Soros has spoken publicly about his disdain for “con man” Trump and the need to remove him from office, once remarking that the 2020 election will decide the “fate of the world,” CNBC reported. He’s certainly spending like that’s the case.
Working in conjunction with other leftist megadonors, Soros is pouring huge sums of cash into left-wing groups as the election draws near, including $23 million to progressive causes from July through late September alone, the Beacon points out.
In other words, Soros has already spent more this quarter than he did during the entire election cycle of 2016, and his overall spending of $68.5 million is triple the $22 million he spent four years ago. This is according to the latest FEC records for Democracy PAC, the group Soros set up for his 2020 spending.
Some of the biggest beneficiaries are the Strategic Victory Fund, which received $3 million, the Senate Majority PAC, which received $1.5 million, and SuperMajority, a group that targets women voters in swing states, which also received $1.5 million.
Other recipients include the pro-open borders group United We Dream, Planned Parenthood Votes, and a bevy of Black Lives Matter-aligned groups, reflecting Soros’s dedication to a far-left agenda.
Soros, Wall Street backing far-left agenda
The spike in spending clearly represents what is for Soros — and countless others with far less money to spend — the incredibly high stakes of this election.
Democrats have routinely warned that a Trump victory would somehow spell the end of democracy, a feeling that Soros evidently shares. On the other hand, a Biden victory would likely accelerate the transformative agenda of open borders and anti-police reform advocated by Biden and super wealthy leftists: this summer, Soros poured more than $200 million into various BLM-related groups, and he has donated to district attorney candidates with far-left criminal justice views all across the country.
Soros is not alone. Despite Biden’s purported working-class image, the Democrat has the resolute support of Big Finance: he has received about five times as much cash from Wall Street as Trump has, with investors taking solace in predictions of a “blue wave,” CBNC reported.
But enthusiasm remains strong for Trump, and this wouldn’t be the first time he defied the polls. Americans will learn shortly whether Soros is making a losing bet.
