Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams made a bizarre move this weekend when she effectively disowned her own state.
According to Fox News, Abrams told supporters at a rally on Saturday that Georgia is “the worst state in the country to live.”
“I’m running for governor because I know that we have to have a conversation about who we are in this state and what we want for each other and from each other,” the candidate insisted.
Abrams went on to declare that she is “tired of hearing about how we’re the best state in the country to do business when we are the worst state in the country to live.”
Her new narrative
“Let me contextualize,” she continued. “When you’re number 48 for mental health, when we’re number one for maternal mortality, when you have an incarceration rate that’s on the rise and wages that are on the decline, then you are not the number place to live.”
Fox News noted that Abrams’ remarks were not a one-off, as she reiterated the same message in a tweet later that evening.
GA may be #1 place for biz, but we’re #48 in mental health, #2 in uninsured. #1 in maternal mortality & new HIV cases, #9 in gun violence. For too many, Kemp’s Georgia doesn’t include them. Why? Because #KempDoesntCare
As Governor, I’ll lead #OneGeorgia that’s #1 for all of us.

Interestingly, Fox News pointed out that Abrams actually maintains two homes in Georgia despite regarding the state as an inhospitable living environment.
Kemp responds
For his part, Georgia’s Republican Gov. Brian Kemp quickly responded to Abram’s remarks by offering praise for Georgia.
Stacey Abrams may think differently, but I believe Georgia is the best state to live, work, and raise a family.
And Marty, the girls, and I will work hard every day from now until November to keep it that way for four more years! https://t.co/T77LF1DroP

Fox News reported that in addition to complaining about Georgia’s living conditions, Abrams also accused Kemp of being a leader who “has failed so miserably on so many accounts.”
“You don’t have to be a Democrat to know that climate change is real. You don’t have to be a Democrat to understand that criminal justice reform is the way forward,” she stated. “Brian Kemp just doesn’t care.”
