White House: Stimulus checks for illegals make Pelosi bill a non-starter

Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) scheme to send coronavirus checks to undocumented immigrants just might doom her latest stimulus package.

The House speaker’s already troubled $3 trillion coronavirus relief bill took another jab on Sunday from White House adviser Peter Navarro, who said Pelosi “basically lost me” with the absurd proposal, the Daily Caller reported.

Navarro: Trouble ahead for Pelosi plan

Pelosi introduced the stimulus bill last week, and it was immediately rejected by Republicans, who called it wasteful and full of ridiculous, far-left priorities. Perhaps no part of the stimulus bill better summarizes Pelosi’s partisan objectives than a plan to provide $1,200 stimulus checks for illegal immigrants.

It would do that by making eligible for the benefit those who use taxpayer ID numbers and not Social Security numbers to file federal returns. Republicans tried to take the provision out of the bill, but the effort failed.

Talking to ABC on Sunday, Navarro, who is a top trade adviser to Donald Trump, pointed to trouble ahead for Pelosi’s big plan.

“So, Nancy Pelosi basically lost me with that package when she has $1,200 checks for illegal immigrants — it goes downhill from there,” Navarro said.

The Hill reported that Pelosi narrowly passed the bill in the House on Friday, with one Republican, Peter King (R-NY), siding with the Dems. The partisan legislation has little chance of passing the Republican-led Senate, and the White House is similarly promising to shoot it down.

Betraying American workers

While Republicans have no stomach for continuing a trillion-dollar spending spree sparked by the pandemic, Democrats insist that a failure to pass the massive bill would hurt already suffering unemployed Americans. Mind, their master plan for helping millions of Americans who find themselves out of work is to subsidize illegal, foreign labor. Amazing.

According to NBC News, Pelosi said Sunday that she has no “red lines” on future negotiations, but it looks like Republicans have seen enough from her opening offer to realize she’s not being serious. The bill is “dead on arrival,” they say, and a good thing too, as it contains various other protections for illegal laborers, including, as Fox News reports, a shield from deportation for “essential” workers and protections for the employers who hire them.

While Pelosi betrays the public interest, Navarro, a hawk on China who has prioritized bringing manufacturing back to America, said that it’s critical to focus on “structural adjustments” to repatriate jobs, the Daily Caller noted.

“What I’m focused on with President Trump is a ‘buy American,’ deregulate, innovate agenda,” Navarro added.

At least somebody is looking out for American workers. The defeat of this bill would serve Pelosi right for trying to pass this un-American nonsense through Congress, right in the middle of a national crisis.
