Although President Joe Biden was touted by his supporters in the Democratic Party as a unifying candidate during the 2020 election season, not everyone was excited about his nomination and subsequent electoral victory.
As one prominent example, the former Senate staffer who accused Biden of sexually assaulting her three decades ago is continuing to advance her allegations even after Wednesday’s inauguration, the Washington Examiner reports.
“He should be held accountable”
Many in the mainstream media attempted to downplay Tara Reade’s accusations during the 2020 presidential campaign, but she told the Daily Caller this week that she has no plans to stop speaking out against the newly inaugurated commander in chief.
“I will not be silenced,” she said, as the Examiner reported. “Instead of talking about saving the country’s soul, he should be held accountable for his actions.”
As the BBC reported in May, Reade served as a staff assistant to the then-senator for a short time beginning in 1992 and alleges that Biden victimized her during an encounter the following year.
“There was no exchange, really,” she said in an interview last year. “He just had me up against the wall. I remember it happened all at once. … His hands were on me and underneath my clothes.”
Despite identifying as “a progressive independent” who will likely agree with much of the Biden agenda, she told the Daily Caller this week that it is “unspeakably hard to watch the man who assaulted [her] go to the most powerful position in the land.”
“Power and resources”
Reade also called the decision to make her complaints public “excruciating on so many levels,” but remained adamant that she would not stop speaking out now that Biden is president.
In addition to the alleged sexual abuse, she accused Biden of using “his power and resources with certain media” to “erase” and “silence” her.
As Reade’s former neighbor revealed in an interview with Business Insider last year, Biden’s accuser shared details of the alleged incident with her several years after Reade said it occurred.
“This happened, and I know it did because I remember talking about it,” said Lynda LaCasse. “I remember her saying, here was this person that she was working for and she idolized him.”
In April 2019, Reade reportedly filed a police report related to the complaint, but Biden maintained his innocence throughout the campaign, asserting that it “never, never happened.”
