Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) continues to bus illegal immigrants from Texas to New York, despite New York City Mayor Eric Adams’ (D) recent admonishment.
The New York Post reports that the latest busload of illegal immigrants from Texas arrived in New York City on Sunday.
“Thirty-one mask-wearing, young-adult migrants got off a white bus about 7 a.m. at Manhattan’s Port Authority Bus Terminal,” the outlet reports.
Republicans have long argued that if non-border Democrats had to deal with the same immigration problems that border states have to deal with they wouldn’t be espousing open-border policies.
It is with this in mind that Abbott has started busing illegal immigrants in Texas to Democrat strongholds, such as New York City. To be clear, the immigrants are not being forcibly bused. Rather, they voluntarily choose to leave.
Several buses have already dropped the immigrants off in New York City. Texas is also currently collecting donations from the public to help keep the buses going.
Adams threatens to go to Texas
Adams has responded to the situation by slamming Abbott.
During a press conference on Tuesday, he said:
This is horrific when you think about what the governor is doing. We’re finding that some of the families are on the bus that wanted to go to other locations, and they were not allowed to do so. They were forced on the bus with the understanding that they were going to other locations that they wanted to go to, and when they tried to explain they were not allowed to do so.
Adams also threatened to bring a busload of New Yorkers to Texas to campaign against Abbott.
Take it up with Biden
Abbott’s response to Adams’s threat to go to Texas was, “go ahead, make my day.”
Adams’s press secretary also released a statement, responding more fully to Adams, saying:
What’s horrific is the thousands of illegal immigrants overrunning and overwhelming our border communities with populations smaller than a New York City borough, and Mayor Adams is hypocritically upset about welcoming a few dozen into his sanctuary city. If the mayor wants a solution to this crisis, he should call on President Biden to take immediate action to secure the border—something the President continues failing to do.
It looks as though Abbott’s plan is working.
