Texas governor says he will bus illegal migrants to D.C.

Fox News has reported that the Biden administration will end a Trump-era immigration policy known as Title 42. The rule allows illegal aliens to be swiftly removed, and observers fear its repeal will unleash a flood of migrants.

However, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has made clear not all of the new arrivals will be remaining in his state. This week, Abbott revealed that he’ll be sending some of them by bus to D.C.

Governor says that “communities are being overwhelmed”

“With the Biden administration ending Title 42 expulsions in May, Texas will be taking its own unprecedented actions this month to do what no state in America has ever done in the history of this country to better secure our state, as well as our nation,” the Daily Wire quoted Abbott as saying on Wednesday.

He stated that “Texas is providing charter buses to send these illegal immigrants who have been dropped off by the Biden administration to Washington, D.C.”

Abbott claimed the move is necessary to “help local officials whose communities are being overwhelmed with hordes of illegal immigrants who are being dropped off by the Biden administration.

“We are sending them to the United States capital where the Biden administration will be able to more immediately address the needs of the people that they are allowing to come across our border,” the Republican governor continued.

Razor wire and more vehicle inspections will be rolled out

In addition to his charter bus plan, Abbott also said the state would begin implementing “enhanced public safety inspection of vehicles” as they come over the border.

While acknowledging that the measure will slow border traffic from Mexico, Abbott insisted it is needed to counter threats posed by drug cartels and human smugglers.

What’s more, the Lone Star governor discussed a number of other strategies aimed at reducing the flow of illegal border crossers.

These include “deploying boat blockades at appropriate regions in the Rio Grande River, deploying razor wire at low-water crossings in high traffic areas, creating container blockades to drive people away from low water crossings.”

Abbott is far from being the only Republican official voicing opposition to President Biden’s decision regarding Title 42.

The Daily Wire noted that the attorneys general for Missouri, Arizona, and Louisiana have filed a lawsuit challenging the move.
