Yet another bus of illegal immigrants just made its way from Texas to Washington D.C., Fox News reports.
This now brings the tally up to four.
Earlier this month, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) gave the order to start busing illegal immigrants who have been dropped off in Texas communities to Washington D.C. Texas, of course, has been one of the states that have been hit the hardest by the surge of illegal immigration that has been taken place at the southern border since President Joe Biden took over.
“To help local officials whose communities are being overwhelmed by hordes of illegal immigration who are being dropped off by the Biden administration, Texas is providing charter buses to send these illegal immigrants who have been dropped off by the Biden administration to Washington, D.C.,” Abbott said.
He added, “We are taking them to the United States Capitol where the Biden administration will be able to more immediately address the needs of the people that they are allowing to come across our border.”
The White House subsequently put out a statement calling Abbott’s plan a “publicity stunt.” The administration clearly did not think that Abbott was going to follow through on his plan.
Turns out, they were wrong.
Abbott began busing illegal immigrants from Texas to D.C. on April 8. It is unclear in total how many buses have been sent. So far, four have arrived.
The fourth one just arrived on Saturday. It had only 10 passengers on it when it arrived at Union Station. The bus that arrived a day earlier, on Friday, had 30 migrants on it.
The big question going forward is whether Abbott will be legally challenged. The federal government transports illegal immigrants across the country all of the time. There have been multiple reports over the past several months revealing that the federal government has dropped illegal immigrants off in New York, Florida, and other states.
However, whether a state could do the same is a different question altogether. The question is complicated by the fact that the federal government, here, clearly isn’t doing its job of securing the border.
We’ll have to see how the situation plays out. But, for now, it appears that Abbott will continue to transport illegal immigrants from Texas to D.C.
