Texas law enforcement groups filed a lawsuit against the Biden administration on Thursday for blocking the arrests and deportation of criminal illegal immigrants.
According to The Blaze, the groups joined in the lawsuit include, “Five counties, five sheriff’s departments, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement employees with a national law enforcement organization signed onto the lawsuit filed with the federal court of the Southern District of Texas.”
Lead attorney Kris Kobach said, “The ICE officers involved in this case are absolutely astounded at what their superiors are asking them to do: Releasing people charged with rape of a child, releasing people charged with dealing drugs and resisting arrest.”
He added, “These are really serious criminals, and ICE is being ordered by the political leadership of the Biden administration to turn them loose.”
Action Needed Beyond Visits
The lawsuit comes as both Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump have visited the border.
President Joe Biden has yet to visit the nation’s southern border or announce plans to do so.
Under Biden’s immigration policies, Border Patrol agents have been limited regarding enforcement. This includes deportation of illegal immigrants with criminal records, pushing law enforcement to pursue legal means toward change.
Changed Policies Changed the Border
Among the policies changed include the Biden administration reinstating the Obama era catch and release policy, as well as ending Trump’s remain in Mexico policy.
The catch and release policy allows illegal immigrants who have been apprehended to remain in the nation until an asylum hearing.
The Trump instated remain in Mexico policy rescinded by Biden had previously kept illegal immigrants who had been apprehended returned to Mexico until a hearing was held.
The case will serve as an interesting example of state law enforcement versus the federal government.
Texas is working in creative ways to address illegal immigration, as the state sees Biden’s policies only hurting instead of helping.
