The Washington Post admits the truth about the FBI’s Mar-a-Lago raid

The Washington Post just provided an update on the FBI’s Mar-a-Lago raid, and that update appears to squash the left’s entire narrative.

It was back in August that the FBI carried out an unprecedented raid on former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. The ostensible purpose of the raid was to collect documents that Trump was improperly keeping at Mar-a-Lago, records that he took at the end of his administration when he left the White House.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has tried to justify the raid by claiming that the FBI found confidential documents at Trump’s residence, documents that Trump should not have taken from the White House and should not have been keeping at Mar-a-Lago. Trump has disputed any wrongdoing, suggesting that the DOJ’s real motive here is political.

Ever since then, the matter has been playing out in court, and the litigation continues.

WaPo’s update

While the litigation continues, those on the left have come up with all kinds of wild theories about what documents Trump took and why he took them. Some of the wilder theories suggested that Trump was looking to share secrets about the U.S. government with foreign agents.

The Washington Post, though, with its new report, put an end to all of this.

“Federal agents and prosecutors have come to believe former president Donald Trump’s motive for allegedly taking and keeping classified documents was largely his ego and a desire to hold on to the materials as trophies or mementos, according to people familiar with the matter,” the outlet reports.

The Post goes on to write:

That review has not found any apparent business advantage to the types of classified information in Trump’s possession, these people said. FBI interviews with witnesses so far, they said, also do not point to any nefarious effort by Trump to leverage, sell, or use the government secrets.

“Instead, the former president seemed motivated by a more basic desire not to give up what he believed was his property, these people said,” the outlet adds.

Liberals respond

It, of course, is extremely surprising that the leftist outlet the Washington Post reported this story.

Many liberals have responded by either slamming the Post and/or the DOJ or by denying that the Post’s reporting is true.

The unsurprising bit of all of this is that the Post waited until after the midterm elections to publish this report. It clearly did not want to let voters know before the midterm elections that another government-led investigation into Trump is a sham.
