Fox News host Tucker Carlson just let loose on bureaucrats in Washington and their cohorts in the media after it was revealed that a bombshell 2020 report scrutinizing then-President Donald Trump over his response — or lack thereof — to intelligence that Russia had put bounties on the heads of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan turned out to be false.
The story begins back in June of last year, when, as Carlson explained, The New York Times published a report “saying that the American intelligence community had ‘concluded that a Russian military intelligence unit secretly offered bounties to Taliban-linked militants for killing coalition forces in Afghanistan.'”
“It was fake”
The Times report came on the heels of an announcement from Trump that he’d be moving to fully withdraw America’s troops from Afghanistan.
Trump was never able to accomplish his goal, which Joe Biden is now hoping to reach by Sept. 11, 2021. But as it turns out, the roadblock Trump ran into thanks to the Gray Lady and outlets that followed it may have all been premised on a lie.
The White House admitted last week that U.S. intelligence officials had only “low to moderate confidence” in the existence of the bounties from Russia, which were said to have been arranged with the Taliban, as The Hill notes.
On his Friday program, Carlson didn’t hold back in slamming the White House, the “Deep State,” and the media for allowing what he called a “lie” to perpetuate.
“Rarely has a news story had a swifter or more profound effect than this one did. By now you’ve guessed the punchline: it was fake,” he said of the Times report.
“The New York Times story was a lie,” Carlson charged, according to Breitbart. “It was placed in the paper by neocons in order to subvert our democratic system, and it did, and once again impose their will on the country. The public didn’t want to stay in Afghanistan for 20 years, they did, and got their way because they lied.”
So what’s changed? Carlson explained it best:
They’re admitting that the story isn’t true, and they’re doing it for a very specific reason: Joe Biden has decided he now wants out of Afghanistan, but before we can leave he needs new facts. You have to fix this story or you can’t pull the troops out. And the CIA is happy to oblige.
While Biden may be backing away from Afghanistan, he does seem to be turning up the heat on Russia. According to the New York Post, the president has slapped the country with sanctions and kicked out its diplomats to America in response to a recent cyberattack and alleged interference in the 2020 U.S. election.
The White House reportedly said the moves “constitute an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security, foreign policy, and economy of the United States.”
Of course, the same could be said about “fake” mainstream news reports based solely on low-confidence intel. But you won’t hear Biden mentioning that.
