New book from a top aide attacks the former first lady, Trump responds

Politico reports that Stephanie Grisham, the former White House press secretary, has a new book coming out that targets former First Lady Melania Trump, among others.

The book is called “I’ll Take Your Questions Now: What I Saw in the Trump White House.” And, it is set to be released in October.

“No.”

In the book, Grisham directs criticism at Melania Trump, for whom Grisham worked during most of her four years in the Trump administration. Grisham was one of those administration members who resigned after the January 6th Capitol riot, and, in the book, she takes issue with the former first lady’s response to that riot.

At one point, Grisham reveals a text message exchange that occurred between her and Melania Trump. It took place on the day of the Capitol riot.

“Do you want to tweet that peaceful protests are the right of every American, but there is no place for lawlessness and violence?” Grisham texted Trump. The response that she received was simply “No.”

According to Politico, Grisham “resigned within hours of that text exchange.

On the traditional inauguration tea

Something else that Grisham claims in the book, according to Politico, is that Melania Trump was hesitant about reaching out to Jill Biden, the incoming first lady.

Grisham claims that she asked Trump a couple of times whether she would like to do the traditional inauguration tea with Jill Biden. According to Grisham, though, Trump’s response what to wait and “see what the West Wing does.”

Then, Grisham goes a step further and claims that Trump’s reason for this was that she believed the 2020 presidential election, in Politico’s words, was “illegitimate.”

The “doomed” Marie Antionette

Still, in another part of the book, Grisham compares Melania Trump to “the doomed French queen,” Marie Antionette, describing both as “Dismissive. Defeated.” Detached.”

Melania Trump’s office has released a response to Grisham’s book.

That response reads:

The intent behind this book is obvious. It is an attempt to redeem herself after a poor performance as press secretary, failed personal relationships, and unprofessional behavior in the White House. Through mistruth and betrayal, she seeks to gain relevance and money at the expense of Mrs. Trump.
