Top Dem supports DeSantis, abandons Democrats ahead of Florida election

Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis has picked up some support from a surprising source during his reelection campaign as a top Democrat is now urging people to vote for him.

Democrat Florida Commissioner Dave Kerner endorsed DeSantis during an appearance on Fox News this week.

“America’s governor”

“’I’ve been a registered Democrat since I registered to vote at the age of 18. I don’t really see it as going against my party. I’m a Floridian, an American first. But there’s a confluence of reasons,” he said.

“The trajectory of our state, which I spoke about in my endorsement, his support for law enforcement, his management of the COVID-19 pandemic. There’s a host of reasons why I endorsed him,” he said. “There has been a lot of that, what I call sort of shadow support for sure. Obviously, Gov. DeSantis is doing an incredible job in Florida. He’s America’s governor, but there is a lot of support out there,” the Democrat added.

Respecting law enforcement

Kerner also supports DeSantis over his focus on law enforcement and supporting the rule of law in his state.

The strong contrast with the defund the police movement popular among some Democrats has been strongly supported in Florida.

The left doesn’t like to admit it, but in Florida, the decision appears to be made. Many Independents and even some Democrats are supporting DeSantis for helping keep their state free and safe.

After gaining popularity for opposing the Biden administration’s strong lockdowns during Covid, DeSantis is now blazing a trail for conservatives nationwide that is attracting attention.

Whether in 2024 or later, DeSantis is even fueling speculation of a presidential run that could bring his policies nationwide.
