Ex-defense official rips Gen. Milley following reports of ‘insubordination’: If true, ‘he must resign’

A stunning new report alleges that Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark Milley worked to undermine former President Donald Trump in secretive calls with his Chinese military counterpart, among other insubordinate actions, in the waning days of Trump’s presidency.

According to The Daily Wire, then-Acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller proclaimed after the claims went public that, if the reporting is true, Milley’s actions represent a “disgraceful and unprecedented act of insubordination” for which the general “must resign immediately or be fired.”

The former acting secretary also insisted he was unaware of and had not authorized the alleged calls between Gen. Milley and Chinese Gen. Li Zuocheng, which were purportedly made to reassure China of America’s continued stability during the tumultuous political transition period.

New tell-all makes shocking claims

The Washington Post first reported on the allegations involving Gen. Milley on Tuesday. The claims are said to be contained within a new book written by Post reporters Bob Woodward and Robert Costa.

The journalists claim that in October 2020, just days prior to the 2020 election, and again in January 2021, just days after a riot at the U.S. Capitol, Gen. Milley made “secret” calls to Chinese Gen. Li to not only reassure China that America remained stable but also vow to provide advanced warning of a potential unprovoked military attack — a ridiculous notion spurred on by Democrats like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and fearmongers in the mainstream media.

In addition to those phone calls, Milley is also alleged to have ordered a review of the presidential nuclear launch protocols, in conjunction with Pelosi.

The journalists also claim he quietly urged other senior military leaders to ignore orders from President Trump and look to him for guidance instead.

Miller: “He must resign immediately”

After the report was made public, Miller pulled no punches in breaking down what the consequences should be. “If the reporting in Woodward’s book is accurate, it represents a disgraceful and unprecedented act of insubordination by the Nation’s top military officer,” the former acting defense secretary told Fox News in an exclusive statement.

Miller said if the general’s “histrionic outbursts and unsanctioned, anti-Constitutional involvement in foreign policy prove true, he must resign immediately or be fired by the Secretary of Defense to guarantee the sanctity of the officer corps.”

“The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is the highest-ranking military officer whose sole role is providing military-specific advice to the president, and by law is prohibited from exercising executive authority to command forces,” Miller explained, according to Fox. “The chain of command runs from the President to the Secretary of Defense, not through the Chairman.”

He concluded: “Pursuit of partisan politics and individual self-interests are a violation of an officer’s sacred duty and have no place in the United States military.”

Unfortunately, calls from former Sec. Miller and others for Gen. Milley to be held to account following the latest allegations will likely go unheeded. In a statement Wednesday, President Biden said, “I have great confidence in General Milley.”
