Former President Donald Trump teased at a 2024 run for the presidency in an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity Tuesday night.
During a discussion that touched on President Joe Biden’s self-made crisis in Afghanistan, Trump said he hates to see what Biden is doing to the United States and hinted at a revenge campaign.
Teasing at a 2024 run
When asked by Hannity if he will run again, Trump said that “unbelievably stupid” campaign finance laws prevent him from answering candidly, but many will be “happy” with his decision.
“Because the campaign finance laws are extremely complicated and unbelievably stupid, I’m actually not allowed to answer that question. Can you believe it?” Trump said, according to a transcript from Rev. “But let me put it this way: I think you’ll be happy and a lot of our friends will be happy.”
The comments come as Biden’s approval rating has dropped to the lowest point of his presidency so far, and as he comes under fire for the disastrous collapse of Afghanistan’s government and an ongoing evacuation crisis. Thousands of Americans remain stranded in Afghanistan after a Taliban coup, according to reports.
Trump called the debacle in Kabul the most embarrassing moment in American history, worse than the Iran hostage crisis of 1979 and the fall of Saigon, Vietnam in 1975.
“It is a terrible time for our country. I don’t think in all of the years our country has ever been so humiliated. I don’t know what you call it — a military defeat or a psychological defeat, there has never been anything like what’s happened here: You can go back to Jimmy Carter with the hostages,” the former president said, according to Fox.
Trump rips Biden on Afghanistan
That’s no Trumpian hyperbole, either, as even many Trump haters in the media have turned their knives on Biden over the chaotic withdrawal. Indeed, Biden has never appeared more vulnerable since coming into office.
The crisis has provided Trump, who has been slamming Biden over the southern border crisis for months, with a fresh line of attack.
“You are dealing with thousands and thousands of Americans and others that are stranded and very dangerously…in Afghanistan. So it’s something that you can’t even believe,” Trump said, speaking of Americans and allies left in the lurch in Afghanistan, as Fox reported.
Trump concluded the interview by hinting that he will run for the presidency again because he hates to see what is happening to America.
“So people, you’re going to be happy, because I love this country and I hate to see what’s happening to it,” he told Hannity.
