A controversial theory behind training sessions mandated for certain federal employees has officially been halted and defunded, according to the Office of Management and Budget.
President Donald Trump on Friday ordered an end to the use of critical race theory as the basis for future training programs, as reported by the Washington Times.
“Millions of taxpayer dollars”
OMB Director Russell Vought confirmed the change in a memo sent to relevant agency heads this week.
He stated that the federal government has already “spent millions of taxpayer dollars” to provide what he said amounted to “divisive, anti-American propaganda” being presented to federal government workers.
As part of the critical race theory, Vought asserted that training material includes a range of controversial claims, including that “virtually all White people contribute to racism.”
White employees were also reportedly coerced into acknowledging that they “benefit from racism,” he wrote.
“According to press reports, in some cases these training [sic] have further claimed that there is racism embedded in the belief that America is the land of opportunity or the belief that the most qualified person should receive a job,” Vought continued.
“Cannot be allowed to continue”
He shared the Trump administration’s stance that such programs “not only run counter to the fundamental beliefs for which our nation has stood since its inception, but they also engender division and resentment within the federal workforce.”
As such, Vought’s memo confirmed that Trump instructed his agency “to ensure that federal agencies cease and desist from using taxpayer dollars to fund these divisive, un-American propaganda training sessions.”
He explained that this task will involve rooting out all federal contracts that promote “critical race theory” or the concept of “White privilege.” Also on the chopping block is “any other training or propaganda effort that teaches or suggests either (1) that the United States is an inherently racist or evil country or (2) that any race or ethnicity is inherently racist or evil.”
Trump touted the decision in a tweet calling the now-prohibited theory “a sickness that cannot be allowed to continue.”
Plenty of taxpayers who do not want their money used to support these courses are sure to agree.
