Former President Donald Trump and his allies have not been shy in sharing a harsh assessment of his successor’s perceived shortcomings in the White House.
As former Trump adviser Stephen Miller argued during a recent Fox News Channel interview, President Joe Biden should be impeached for effectively opening the nation’s southern border.
He made his comment in light of news that the Biden administration has appeared to snub a court order compelling the president to reinstate Trump’s so-called Remain in Mexico policy.
Biden’s first few days in office included issuing orders to roll back as many of his predecessor’s immigration policies as possible while calling for reforms such as curtailed enforcement of the law and possible reparations for undocumented immigrants.
Meanwhile, a record-high 2 million immigrants are likely to be caught illegally entering the country during his first year as president.
Despite the ongoing border crisis, the Biden administration has fought back against mounting pressure to reinstate the Trump-era policy requiring asylum-seekers to wait in Mexico while their cases were resolved.
Miller tied it all to the Biden administration’s “voluntarily inflicted” border crisis. He called on Republicans to end the president’s “lawless, ruinous” policies.
“Violating the court injunction”
“President Trump kept the whole world from coming to our borders illegally,” Miller said. “Now, with the cancellation of those policies, we have people from every region, every corner, every stretch of this earth coming into our communities.”
The former Trump aide went on to accuse Biden of “violating the court injunction, advising a prospective GOP majority in the House to impeach the president after next year’s midterm elections.
In the meantime, talk of impeachment is essentially a symbolic gesture of disapproval. If Republicans do regain control of Congress, it remains to be seen whether there is enough political will to launch an effort to impeach Biden.
Offering some criticism of the GOP for its perceived support of certain open borders policies, Miller said party leaders need to make it clear to voters that they will hold Biden accountable if they take back Congress next year.
“This is unthinkable,” he concluded. “Why are open borders measures getting through? You can win this issue, you can win it. I swear to you, you can.”
