Trump announces plan to pardon Jan. 6 protesters if he becomes president in 2024

Former President Donald Trump said on Saturday night during a Save America rally in Texas that he plans to pardon Americans who were involved in the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot if he wins in 2024, Fox News reports.

Trump shared the comment among thousands of supporters in the Conroe, Texas, event that included leading state lawmakers Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and Attorney General Ken Paxton (R).

“If I run and if I win, we will treat those people from Jan. 6 fairly,” Trump said. “And if it requires pardons, we will give them pardons,” he continued. “They are being treated so unfairly.”

“Music to my ears”

Georgia Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said the news is “music to my ears.”

Taylor Greene believes the Jan. 6 protesters who have been arrested have been treated “unfairly,” according to her interview with Greg Kelly on Newsmax.

Not everyone agrees

Even some within Trump’s own party did not like the announcement. South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham was among those who support Trump but do not agree with his pardon plan.

“I don’t want to send any signal that it was OK to defile the Capitol. There are other groups with causes that may want to go down the violent path if these people get pardoned,” Graham said in an interview regarding Trump’s remarks.

The strong words from Trump are certainly controversial, but serve as part of his strong conservative focus to fire up his base of supporters as the midterms approach.

Whether he’ll actually go through with such a plan is anyone’s guess, but it’s definitely one surefire way to send the liberal mainstream media into total panic and hysteria.
