A date has been set for the launch of former President Donald Trump’s new social media platform.
According to the New York Post, Trump plans to launch Truth Social on February 21st, which is Presidents’ Day.
That’s roughly 13 months after Trump was banned from the likes of Twitter and Facebook following the Capitol protests of January 6th, 2021.
What to expect?
Truth Social is being billed as a social media site that will encourage “an open, free, and honest global conversation without discriminating against political ideology.” It is specifically a response to the censorship of conservatives that we have seen from Big Tech, particularly over the past year.
As for what Truth Social will look like, it is expected to be very similar to other social media sites, such as Twitter. Users will be able to set up a profile with an avatar, and they will be able to post messages.
Users will also be able to follow others, and there will be a feed containing followed posts.
In the app store, Truth Social’s listing states that users will be able to share their “unique opinion by posting a TRUTH, Re-TRUTH, photo, news story or video link to communicate with your friends, customers, and the world.” The listing adds, “Stay informed about breaking news while staying directly connected with the people who influence you – don’t be shocked if they take your TRUTH viral!”
Meet the CEO
The group behind Truth Social is the Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG). And, this group has picked Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) to be its CEO, which means that Nunes will be leaving Congress.
Trump, upon the announcement, put out a statement saying:
Congressman Devin Nunes is a fighter and a leader. He will make an excellent CEO of TMTG. Devin understands that we must stop the liberal media and Big Tech from destroying the freedoms that make America great. America is ready for TRUTH Social and the end to censorship and political discrimination.
Nunes, for his part, said:
The time has come to reopen the Internet and allow for the free flow of ideas and expression without censorship. The United States of America made the dream of the Internet a reality and it will be an American company that restores the dream. I’m humbled and honored President Trump has asked me to lead the mission and the world class team that will deliver on this promise.
In addition to Truth Social, TMTG is also expected to start an on-demand video service that will feature “‘non-woke’ entertainment programming, news, podcasts, and more.”
Americans definitely would appear to have something to look forward to here.
