Trump asserts his 5th Amendment rights during ‘witch hunt’ deposition

The Associated Press reported that New York state Attorney General Leticia James had former President Donald Trump testify in a deposition this week as part of her long-running civil investigation into his business practices.

According to the new service, Trump invoked his 5th Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination rather than answer questions. He later said it was his only hope to survive a “politically motivated witch hunt.”

Trump says he had “no choice” but to plead the 5th Amendment

The Associated Press noted that following the deposition, Trump addressed his decision to plead “the rights and privileges afforded to every citizen under the United States Constitution.”

“I once asked, ‘If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?’” Trump acknowledged. “Now I know the answer to that question.”

“When your family, your company, and all the people in your orbit have become the targets of an unfounded politically motivated Witch Hunt supported by lawyers, prosecutors and the Fake News Media, you have no choice,” he insisted.

The Associated Press noted that should James decide to pursue a civil lawsuit against the former president, then his decision to invoke the 5th Amendment can be brought up in court.

“Jousting with lawyers at depositions, while avoiding lying, is something he’s proud of,” Gillers was quoted as saying. “Perhaps his lawyers feared that his impetuosity would imperil him.”

Trump says FBI raid is an attempt to stop him from running in 2024

This is not the only statement that the former president has released this week regarding his legal tribulations, Breitbart reported that also he issued a response to the Monday raid on his Florida home by FBI agents.

“After working and cooperating with the relevant Government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate,” Trump insisted.

Instead, he said the move was an example of “prosecutorial misconduct” and “the weaponization of the Justice System” by “Radical Left Democrats.”

Trump further asserted that the raid was the work of those who “desperately don’t want me to run for President in 2024.”
