Trump compares Hunter Biden laptop to Clinton’s ‘October surprise’

President Donald Trump made light of Hunter Biden’s “laptop from hell,” comparing the discovery of the computer to the “October surprise” that overshadowed the final days of former Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton’s doomed presidential campaign in 2016.

At a rally in Arizona on Monday, the president joked that Biden’s computer was almost as scandalous as former New York Democratic Rep. Anthony Weiner’s infamous laptop, the Washington Examiner reported.

Trump slams “Biden crime family”

Roughly four years ago, then-FBI Director James Comey reopened the Clinton email investigation just 11 days before the election, only to close it again, after new emails were discovered on the laptop of Weiner, the disgraced husband of Clinton aide Huma Abedin.

Weiner was investigated for sexting with a minor and eventually spent over a year in prison for the crime.

Fast forward to 2020, and Trump has been on a tear slamming the “Biden crime family” after the New York Post, just weeks before Election Day, published damning emails about the foreign business deals of former Vice President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden.

The emails were discovered by a Delaware computer repairman, in an episode that has prompted comparisons to the “October surprise” that Clinton has long blamed for contributing to her 2016 loss. The laptop also contained sexual images and a photo of Hunter with a crack pipe hanging out of his mouth.

“If you read this laptop, I tell you what, this is called the laptop from hell. The only laptop that was almost as good, maybe worse, was the laptop of Anthony Weiner. Remember that? Ding-ding-ding-ding. He got hacked too,” Trump said, according to the Examiner.

Trump calls for investigation

Biden’s allies have taken the “October surprise” as expected, claiming baselessly that the laptop’s contents are “Russian misinformation.” But neither Joe nor Hunter Biden have actually denied that the New York Post’s report is true.

The emails establish a link between the Democratic nominee and Burisma Holdings, the Ukrainian gas company where Hunter Biden worked, and which Trump has long accused Biden of seeking to protect from prosecution. Trump has frequently claimed that Biden used his political influence to enrich his family while selling America out to China.

“Joe Biden is always and has been a corrupt politician, and as far as I’m concerned the Biden family is a criminal enterprise,” Trump said at the rally Monday.

As he did with Clinton four years ago, the president is calling for a special prosecutor to investigate his rival.

“This is major corruption and this has to be known about before the election,” Trump told “Fox and Friends” on Tuesday.
