President Joe Biden campaigned in part on his promise to rely on science and effectively shut down the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Nearly a year after taking office, he is facing pressure to resign after having clearly failed to deliver on that promise.
“Far more people died this year than last”
Former President Donald Trump is even hitting back directly at his successor for portraying him as responsible for the COVID-19 deaths that occurred during his term.
During one presidential debate, Biden emphasized his core campaign message that Trump had acted negligently in response to the pandemic, asserting that “anyone who is responsible for that many deaths should not remain” in the White House.
Biden, however, is on pace to overtake Trump in the total number of COVID-19 deaths, despite the availability of vaccines.
Based on the president’s own position during the campaign, Trump determined that Biden should step down.
“Biden said that he was going to ‘beat the virus,’ but instead, the virus has beaten him — and badly,” Trump wrote. “Far more people died this year than last, despite tremendous help from vaccines and therapeutics developed under Trump.”
“Well Joe, what are you waiting for!”
The former president cited his rival’s standard, declaring: “Well Joe, what are you waiting for!”

White House press secretary has fielded some questions from reporters on the topic but has been characteristically dismissive. After repeated some misleading claims about Trump’s COVID-19 policies, she vaguely asserted that Biden is taking action to get the “pandemic under control.”
Notably, some of those measures include travel restrictions that Democrats including Biden denounced as racist during the Trump administration. Psaki went on to accuse Trump of spreading “misinformation” that has discouraged Americans from receiving the vaccine.
Based largely on growing disapproval of Biden’s policies on COVID-19 and various other issues, recent polling suggests Trump would beat him in a head-to-head election if it were held today. On a personal level, Trump has also addressed his 2020 rival’s careless hygiene habits, insisting: “Biden goes around coughing on people all over the place, and yet the Corrupt News doesn’t even cover it.”
